What kind of job would you like to do? You could do different things. Just think about what you like and what you’re good at. If you like a job, it is easier to learn how to do it well.
A lot of people with learning difficulties work as gardeners. They water the plants, they weed, and they sweep. They collect the dirt, plant the flowers and mow the grass.
If you don’t like gardening, you could do other jobs.
-
Some people do the dishes in a restaurant
-
People do the laundry in a hospital.
-
Some clean the shelves of a shop.
-
You could work as a carpenter assistant. Then you will have to work with wood and help to make furniture. You will also have to clean the machinery and the warehouse.
There are a lot of different jobs you could do. Even jobs you didn’t think about. For example, some people work as bookbinders, or they are sewing fabrics. One man even takes care of the cages in a zoo.
People with a job work hard. They work about 40 hours a week.
Like Vera, she works 40 hours a week in a hotel. But that’s ok; she really likes her job.

“With a lot of pleasure I do my job behind the bar. I make little cakes. On Wednesdays I make lunch. I help cleaning. If needed, I help to clean the rooms. I do what’s necessary. I love my job and that is essential. Obviously I get help from my boss.”

Anna too works 40 hours a week. She is works in a garden centre.
|
“I’m working in a garden centre where people buy plants, trees, bushes and vases for their gardens and houses. In the mornings I clean the centre, sweep, dust the plants, and remove old leaves. I get new plants, tag prices, and put them on racks to be sold. Sometimes I help the customers to bring the plants to their car. The garden centre is very pretty and I receive a lot of customers. Every now and then I point to the plants that the customers want to buy.”
