When you find a job, you will have to work with other people.
-
You will have a supervisor or a manager. He or she will show you what you have to do.
-
You will have colleagues. It is nice because then you can have a chat together. And it is nicer to be together with other people than to be alone, isn’t it?
Of course your colleagues will help you! That’s what colleagues are for. Most of the time you will be able to do your job alone. But some jobs are easier when there is somebody to help you, for example making beds.
When it is really busy, your colleagues will help you to get the job done. Your colleagues might need your help too. Everybody has to help everybody to get the job done.
And don’t forget, if you need help, you can always count on your job coach.
Let’s see who Liz and Patrick work with. Do they get help if they need it?
Liz is a clerk office assistant. She has many colleagues and her job is to help the colleagues. If she doesn’t understand something, she can always ask.

“I work with girls in an office. I do most of the girls’ filing and help do their copying and bring their post over to be posted out. The girls, they work on computers and they are secretaries. They help if I can’t understand the writing of a form or if I can’t spell something.”
|
Patrick gets help if he needs it. He works in a cosy pub in Co Kildare.
|
“I work with John, my boss. I also work with the girls in the kitchen and in the bar. I do my job on my own. I work with the barman when I’m stacking shelves. People help me. If I need help I ask John. He will show me.”
