Fontys Opleidingscentrum Speciale Onderwijszorg (OSO) is one of the 38 institutes of the Fontys University of Applied Sciences. Fontys OSO currently has about 3,000 students with relevant working experiences and has the authority to teach. Students are supported by some 450 lecturers and researchers. The staff is divided in 12 teams, subdivided in primary, special, advanced and high school level vocational training. Fontys OSO also works on the level of action, research and evaluative acting.
From 2007 on, Fontys OSO offers its students a Master on Special Educational Needs (SEN). An academic Master SEN is organized in cooperation with the Roehampton University in London. Fontys OSO works into depth (both practically and theoretically) on the problems encountered by a professional in the work field. Educational development is the main focus and the starting point for education, support and research. Fontys OSO mostly works in the field of special education and the transition towards labour, living and leisure time. Developments with regard to inclusion and competence-based education are central in this work.
